Babbitt übersetzt oft ins „reine Englisch“, dann wiederum ins Pseudo-Schottische. (a mon ye are).
Merkwürdig.

Wenn die gr. Vorlage dorisch ist (z.B. ἐπὶ τᾶς γᾶς), dann übersetzt er schottisch. So mein Eindruck.

War dies zu Babbitts Zeiten eher freundlich/kernig gemeint und weniger rückständig?
Wenn ich jetzt sagen würde „Host mi?“, wäre das einzig herzlich.
